Plywood Grade Guide: MR, BWR, BWP and Where to Use Each

Plywood grade selection directly impacts furniture life, moisture resistance, and maintenance cost. Many projects face early damage because the grade is selected by price only, not by area conditions.

1. MR Grade (Moisture Resistant)

MR is suitable for dry interior zones such as bedroom wardrobes, study units, and TV panels. It should not be used in wet areas exposed to water contact.

2. BWR Grade (Boiling Water Resistant)

BWR offers stronger moisture protection and is a safer choice for kitchens, utility cabinets, and areas with moderate humidity.

3. BWP Grade (Boiling Waterproof)

BWP is the most durable option for high-exposure areas such as sink zones and heavy-use utility sections where water risk is frequent.

4. Hardware and Edge Banding Also Matter

Even the best plywood grade can fail with weak edge sealing or low-grade hardware. Always choose quality channels, hinges, and proper edge finishing.

Quick Material Selection Rules
  • Use MR only in dry zones
  • Prefer BWR for most modular kitchens
  • Use BWP near sinks and high-moisture utility areas
  • Always verify board brand and thickness in quotation
  • Check edge band quality before final handover
